"29 Climate Talks: The Road to COP29" Initiative Hosts a Major International Event

On September 4, 2024, the Innovation and Digital Development Agency (IDDA) and the United Nations Office in Azerbaijan co-hosted an international event titled "Paperless Government: The Impact of Digitalization and Innovation on the Environment." This event was part of the "29 Climate Talks: The Road to COP29" initiative, aiming to foster discussions on digital transformation and its role in combating climate change.

The event brought together high-level speakers, including Samir Mammadov, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport; Inara Valiyeva, Chairperson of the IDDA; and Vladanka Andreeva, UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan.
In his opening remarks, Deputy Minister Samir Mammadov emphasized Azerbaijan's proactive efforts in addressing global climate challenges:

Chairperson Inara Valiyeva highlighted Azerbaijan’s transition towards a paperless government through the implementation of the Digital Document Management subsystem. She stated:
"This initiative is designed to maximize the use of advanced technologies to enhance environmental sustainability. With the Digital Document Management subsystem, we aim to achieve 90% data accuracy and reduce inter-agency data exchange times to under seven days. By fully digitizing documentation processes, we will significantly decrease paper consumption, contributing to environmental conservation and reducing deforestation."
UN Resident Coordinator Vladanka Andreeva underscored the transformative potential of digital innovation in achieving global climate and sustainable development goals:
"As we advance towards COP29, Azerbaijan's commitment to digital transformation demonstrates how technology can drive environmental and social progress. The transition to a paperless government reflects Azerbaijan's broader strategy to utilize digital innovation for sustainable development. This approach not only tackles climate change but also establishes governance frameworks centered on responsible consumption, innovation, and environmental protection."
