The meeting was held to strengthen Azerbaijan’s position in the Global Innovation Index.

A video conference dedicated to strengthening Azerbaijan's position in the Global Innovation Index (GII) was held with the participation of the Innovation and Digital Development Agency (IDDA), the Intellectual Property Agency, and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The main purpose of the meeting was to analyze the country's performance in the index, discuss achieved results, and exchange views on upcoming challenges.
During the online meeting, Chairman of IDDA Farid Osmanov provided information about recent developments in innovation and digitalization in Azerbaijan. He emphasized the importance of the GII for the country and highlighted the agency’s coordinated work with relevant government institutions in this area:
“Our position in the Global Innovation Index reflects the collective efforts of various institutions in the innovation ecosystem. IDDA is taking steps to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and aims to contribute significantly to improved outcomes in the coming years.”
Chief of Staff of the Intellectual Property Agency, Khudayat Hasanli, noted the establishment of effective data exchange and cooperation between WIPO and relevant institutions in Azerbaijan. He also underlined the importance of using reliable data sources when reporting on Azerbaijan. Hasanli added that a working group has been established within the Commission on Business Environment and International Ratings to strengthen coordination regarding the GII. In this context, regular meetings of the Coordination Group on the Global Innovation Index are being held to discuss current topics.
WIPO representative Habib Asan emphasized that the GII is not merely a ranking but reflects tangible successes achieved through the implementation of effective policies in social, economic, and technological domains, ultimately improving people’s lives.
The conference continued with a presentation by WIPO outlining the organization's engagement mechanisms with countries in the context of the GII. WIPO expert Sascha Wunsch presented an analysis of Azerbaijan’s position in the index, progress areas, and sectors with high development potential.
