Ms. Katherina Deufrains, Program Manager at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), visited the Nuclear Research Department of the Innovation and Digital Development Agency (IDDA) to review the implementation progress of IAEA-supported projects.

Ms. Katherina Deufrains, Programme Manager for the Europe Section of the Department of Technical Cooperation at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), visited the Nuclear Research Department of the Innovation and Digital Development Agency (IDDA) to review the implementation progress of IAEA-supported projects.

 

The Nuclear Research Department (IDDA NRD) is currently implementing the IAEA national technical cooperation project AZB1004, titled "Enhancing the Capabilities of the National Laboratory for the Monitoring and Forensic Analysis of Nuclear and Radioactive Materials in Azerbaijan."

 

During the meeting, the Head of the Nuclear Research Department, Mr. Jalal Naghiyev, briefed Ms. Deufrains on the capabilities of the laboratory established under IAEA and Science and Technology Center in Ukraine (STCU) projects for the analysis, identification, and forensic examination of nuclear and radioactive materials in Azerbaijan, as well as on the government agencies utilizing these services.

 

Ms. Deufrains was introduced to equipment, instruments, and standardized materials with a total value of €296,000 that have been provided to help the laboratory meet international standards for the analysis and forensic investigation of nuclear and radioactive materials.

 

Additionally, the meeting included discussions on the upcoming AZB1005 project for 2024–2025, which aims to expand the country’s capabilities in the production, separation, and purification of medical isotopes using a cyclotron, as well as to improve quality management systems in radiation technology.
