Radiological research conducted in Jabrayil district featured on AZTV's “Obyektiv” program!

Within the framework of the “First State Program on the Great Return,” the Nuclear Research Department of the Innovation and Digital Development Agency conducts radiological and radioecological studies in the territories liberated from occupation.

Using specialized technical equipment, the Agency’s experts detect orphan radioactive sources and radioactive waste in these liberated areas. They also assess the radiation safety of currently operating state-important facilities, as well as areas planned for future facilities. In addition, radiological analyses are carried out on key drinking and technical water sources (lakes, rivers, qanats, wells, and springs) used both currently and planned for use after the Great Return, as well as on arable land.

To date, during radiological monitoring carried out by the Agency’s Nuclear Research Department, radiological maps have been created for the liberated districts of Zangilan, Fuzuli, Shusha, Gubadli, Jabrayil, Khojavend, Aghdam, Lachin, and Kalbajar, as well as the villages of Suqoushan and Talish in the Tartar district. Preliminary reports on radiological and radioecological research have been submitted to the relevant state bodies.

Following a detailed field plan, auto-gamma radiometric and dosimetric measurements have been conducted at 468,925 points along 1,004 kilometers of roads in the mentioned liberated districts and villages. So far, the Agency has analyzed the radiation safety of 64 state-important facilities, 155 drinking water sources, and 83 arable land plots. Additionally, laboratory radiospectral analysis of artificial radioisotope content has been performed on water and sediment samples from 12 rivers.

During monitoring in the liberated territories cleared of mines and unexploded war remnants, the Agency discovered 4 orphan radioactive radiation sources. Immediate response measures were taken in cooperation with the relevant state authorities. The research activities under subsections 5.1.6 and 6.1.1 of the “First State Program on the Great Return” will continue until 2028.
